OFFICE

YOKOHAMA

2013.07.

This is an office-renovation project. The client’s primary business is renovating houses. The designer, Yasuhiro Sone, expected the space to “renovate” people’s minds, and hoped that visiting the space would create a sense of value. He removed ceilings and walls that were not integral structural components and installed “something like a big table” in the center of the space. He also added chairs, benches, and a kitchen with a small counter near and around the “big table.” The “table” can variously be used as a table for meetings, a stage, or a bench. It performs various functions and helps define the space. The designer wants you to feel that “renovation” has more than one meaning; it is the act of renewing existing space by investing in it.
